The Furever Home Friends Book Series

An adorable KickStarter is winding down this weekend with just $2,000 more needed to reach the goal. The Furever Home Friends is a new children’s book series that tells the story of real shelter dogs and their journey to adoption. Each dog featured has a corresponding 12-inch flannel stuffed animal.

The Furever Home Friends is the brainchild of children and young-adult author, Savy Leiser. Savy is a big supporter of animal shelters, as well as a proud pit bull mom.

The Chicago author is hoping to raise awareness about the importance of adopting animals from shelters and sharing the stories of a select few animals that have gone through the shelter system. Savy says, “Our books teach children about a variety of social issues, including adoption, animal abuse, body image, disabilities, racism, and sexism, through a dog’s perspective.

The Kickstarter campaign will raise the necessary funds to produce and launch the first two books and stuffed animals in the series. Each book is an 8×8 full-color picture book targeted to a reading level easy enough for 5 to 8 year olds. Challenging discussion questions at the end of each book engage older readers and inspire family-wide conversation.

Savy’s plan is to donate a percentage of proceeds to shelters in the Chicago area, after the company starts generating a profit. After releasing the first two books and stuffed animals, she’ll be working with no-kill animal shelters to find new dogs who want their stories told.

“The goal of the Furever Home Friends is to foster a love of animals in children of all ages,” says Leiser. “We also want to get kids thinking about big-picture social issues, how those issues affect people and animals, and how they can help.”

Books and stuffed animals for the first two Furever Home Friends characters–a black lab named Allee and a pit bull mix named Chewie–are available for pre-order on the Furever Home Friends Kickstarter page.
