Good Dog Award Winners – Antioch High School Panther Tails Program

Student athletes use cross country practice to exercise, socialize and de-stress shelter dogs

Good Dog of the Week Award

The Good Dog Blog will be awarding a weekly “Good Dog Award” for dogs doing good things and those doing good things for dogs.

This week’s Good Dog Award goes to the student athletes of the Antioch High School Panther Tails Program in California. The recently launched program pairs student runners up with shelter dogs from Antioch Animal Services on weekly 3 miles runs through the community.

Not only does the experience provide the shelter dogs with much needed exercise, stimulation and socialization outside the shelter, it brings these wonderful dogs much needed community awareness and exposure to potential adopters. The program was organized by the high school’s community liaison, principal and cross country coach.

The Panther Tails were recently featured in Bark Magazine and everyone involved is hoping that the idea will catch on to help shelter dogs in other communities.

Way to go Antioch High School Panther Tails Program, this week’s Good Dog Award Winners!
