Good Dog Award Winners – Girl Scout Troop 80067

Providing bulletproof vests for canine officers

Good Dog of the Week Award

The Good Dog Blog will be awarding a weekly “Good Dog Award” for dogs doing good things and those doing good things for dogs. This week’s Good Dog Award goes to Girl Scout Troop 80067 in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania for their donation of two bulletproof vests for canine officers in their community.

The Chambersburg Police Department’s two Belgian Malinois canine officers, Rownan, 4, and Basco, 2, had been working without the protection of bulletproof vests because each vest costs about $1,000. Girl Scout Troop 80067 found out that the dogs were in need of the vests and they started a fund raising campaign. Over 8200 boxes of cookies were sold by 19 members of the Troop, enough to fund the purchase of bulletproof vests for both Rownan and Basco.

Plans are already underway to help fund vests for canine officers in neighboring counties in Maryland and West Virginia. Way to go Girl Scout Troop 80067, this week’s Good Dog Award winners!
